Home

The local Austin newspaper published a two-page article in 1997 that featured my home and its automation features. The home security system uses the X-10 powerline protocol to interface with lights, HVAC, and remote telephone access. Structured wiring brings all the cable to a central point, making it easier to connect any of the coax, phone, and Ethernet ports, which are spread liberally all around the house. Check out Home Automation Station, by Lori Hawkins.

My home office includes a high-speed broadband connection using Time Warner's RoadRunner service, a 100-baseT Ethernet network, and an 802.11a/b wireless network.

Family

My wife is a registered nurse at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic here in Austin, and our son is a music studies major and trumpet specialist at the University of Texas.  He's one busy "dude," performing in concerts, at football, basketball and volleyball games, and as a guest musician at numerous special occasions.

I'm sure that all parents are proud of their kids, but if you're interested, let me gloat a minute.  All summer long my son hones his music and leadership skills performing with The Cadets, the oldest and most honored drum and bugle corps in the world and eight times world champions.  The Cadets travel over Click to enlarge20,000 miles by bus each summer, entertaining millions of fans throughout the nation.  The performers, mostly college kids under the age of 22, rehearse some 10 hours during each day of the marching season and then get dressed for the evening's clinic or competition.  Afterwards, they eat and travel by bus to the next town to start all over again.  They mostly sleep on the bus, but when they get to their destination, they often get some precious "down time," sleeping horizontally on a school gym floor.  What a life!  If you'd like to learn more about The Cadets and the drum corps experience, check out their web site (www.yea.org).

Sports and Hobbies

My wife and I love watching college football, basketball, baseball and volleyball.  I also  play volleyball and referee. Hobbies include home improvement and raising tropical fish.
